Georgina’s art is inspired by both the macro and micro world: from the forests of Maine to the protozoans and algae that dwell in vernal pools.
Georgina uses non-toxic printmaking methods and materials to make art about the fleeting colors, space and form of Maine’s wild places. She uses the process of linoleum reduction printing to create small variable editions of twelve images, each with a unique color scheme that afford viewers multiple ways consider our connection to nature. She also uses an intaglio press and photopolymer unit that she built to create etched, mono-printed and silkscreened images of algae and protozoa.
In 2018, Georgina was awarded the “Democracy, Journalism, and the Informed Citizen” grant from the Maine Humanities Council. This grant funded her work “Certainty”, a collection of art, poetry, and letters submitted by local and international communities. The submissions were assembled into books that were distributed back out into the community. These books explored the idea of truth and how humanity views it. This continues to hold relevance as our culture rapidly changes and the environment around us continues to be stressed.
“For Georgina, a relief print is more than a printing method. It is a decompression, an extraction of analytical seeing and contemplation of how fragile and beautiful nature is.”
